Miss Venezuela Stefania Fernandez is Miss Universe 2009

Miss Venezuela Stefania Fernandez has won the Miss Universe 2009 contest at Atlantis, Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas.

She was crowned Miss universe on Saturday in Atlantis, which was the 58th edition of the title. The 18-year-old brunette clinched the crown beating 84 contenders in the annual pageant.

Fernandez received the glittering crown from Miss Universe 2008 Dayana Mendoza, also a Venezuelan.

Miss Dominican Republic Ada de la Cruz was crowned the first runner up. Miss Kosovo Marigona Dragusha was declared the second runner up.

This is the second consecutive year that a Venezuelan is being crowned Miss Universe. Venezuela, which is known for its beauty queens, had already produced five previous winners.
