Committee set up to discuss Telengana

New delhi: A five-member committee headed by Retd Supreme Court Judge B N Srikrishna was constituted on Wednesday to hold consultations with all sections of people and political parties of Andhra Pradesh on the issue of creating a separate state of Telengana.

The members include Vice-Chancellor of National Law University (Delhi) Prof Ranbir Singh, Senior Research fellow at International Food Policy Research Institute (Delhi) Dr Abusaleh Shariff, Professor in Department of Humanity and Social Sciences (IIT Delhi) Dr Ravinder Kaur. Former Union Home Secretary Vinod K Duggal has been appointed as the Member Secretary.

The terms and references of the committee are being drafted and will be finalised after consultation with the chairman and announced shortly, a statement said here.

In his meeting with the eight recognised political parties of Andhra Pradesh on January 5, Home Minister P Chidambaram had announced the setting up of a committee to look after the Telangana issue.
