India beat Lanka in Kanpur test

Kanpur: India thrashed Lankans by an innings and 144-run in the second test to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

This is the 100th test victory for India and they also clinched the top spot in the ICC Test rankings.

With a total of 642 runs to chase, Sri Lanka, who was asked to follow on after their first innings folded up on 229, could manage only 269 runs in their second innings.

With six wickets in hand, the Sri Lankans tried to pull through the follow on. But in the morning session itself, the Lankans started to lose the wickets. Thilan Samaraweera (78) and Ajantha Mendis (27) did try to resist the Indian bowlers, but Yuvraj Singh finally ended the Lankan resistance when he trapped Mendis leg before and Ojha completed the winning spree with the wicket of Chanaka Welegedara.

    S Sreeshanth was declared man-of-the-match.
